If you’re an adult beginner or a nervous swimmer, our 8-week Learn to Swim Programme is the perfect introduction to the water. We specialise in helping adults build confidence, develop safe swimming techniques, and learn front crawl step by step in a calm, supportive environment.

Each week focuses on simple, achievable skills designed to help you feel relaxed, safe and confident in the pool.

Keeley Bullock

Keeley has over 30 years of experience teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities. A former national-level competitor, she now specialises in helping beginners and those with water anxiety build confidence and enjoy the water.

Course Format

What You’ll Learn Over 8 Weeks

Week 1

Water Confidence for Adult Beginners

We start by helping you feel relaxed and safe in the water.

  • Introduction to the pool environment
  • Standing-up drills from the prone position
  • Learning how to breathe comfortably in the water
  • Supported floating (front & back)
  • Gentle water-movement and relaxation techniques

Week 2

Streamlining, Kick Technique & Breathing Skills

You’ll learn the key foundations of efficient adult swimming.

  • Streamlining positions
  • Leg kick fundamentals
  • Introductory breathing patterns

Week 3

Skill Progression & Standing from the Back

Developing confidence and control in new positions.

  • Building on Week 2
  • Learning to stand up from the supine (on the back) position

Week 4

Learning to Breathe to the Side

Perfect for adults preparing to learn front crawl.

  • Building on Week 3
  • Introduction to breathing-to-the-side skills

Week 5

Arm Cycle Technique (Standing Position)

A safe, controlled introduction to front-crawl arm movements.

  • Building on Week 4
  • Arm cycle and breath timing while standing

Week 6

Arm Cycle & Breathing in a Prone Position

Your first steps toward coordinated swimming.

  • Building on Week 5
  • Arm cycle and breath timing in a prone/swimming position

Week 7

Coordinating Your Swimming Skills

Refining rhythm, control and confidence.

  • Building on Week 6
  • More coordination, smoother breathing and consistent movement

Week 8

Putting Your Swimming Skills Together

You’ll finish the course swimming short, comfortable distances.

SFT offer learn to swim courses at Nuffield Health, a private membership facility in Shoreditch. You do not need to be a member of Nuffield Health to have lessons.
